Why can't civilians understand that we like to deploy? And it's not an Air Force thing, I had this conversation with an Army SFC. We've got a new congress and they want anything to happen as long as it's change. I can see it now, bring the troops home, everyone thinks they did the troops a huge favor and everyone will listen to the media and not listen to the actual troops who (for a large part) want to stay and finish the job. Or maybe go on a shorter rotation and when their turn comes up again, go back for another round. But as long as there is any kind of change, all we are going to hear is "see, we told you so". I'm just glad 2008 is still 2 years away.

I think my friend Ian is a good case in point.
Ian enlisted in the Guard to be a Chaplain's Assistant. As soon as he was out of AIT, he started looking for any unit that would take him as a strap-hanger, so he could get a tour to Iraq. He ended up being double-slotted with someone else and loaned out to other units - first it was a graves registration unit, then it was convoy security, and then - who knows where else he went and what else he did.
Pretty much as soon as he got back from that, he started looking around for units again. He didn't find any, so he went infantry in hopes of bettering his chances. He's now deployed again.
Voluntarily.
I would just hate to think that all we've done so far... I mean... if we withdraw now, what was all the sacrifice FOR? It's hard. There has to be a certain point where we say "enough is enough" but at the same time, we are there to do our jobs.
My husband is the same, he was deployed once, got orders for Recruiting and actually rather deployed again,...it is what you as a Soldier are trained to do, and love to do. You get to do what you want to do.
Once a Soldier, always a Soldier and like my husband, a Soldier at heart.
BTW - I was the one that asked about the Air Force Recruiting thing,...is it different from Army Recruiting and what does it take?
What is the life of an Air Force Recruiter?
